Hyundai Safety Ratings & SmartSense Technology

Nearly 6 million car crashes occur annually in the U.S., and unless you have the otherworldly eyesight and reaction time of a comic book superhero, there’s no way other than blind luck to avoid every potential accident.

Luckily, with innovative vehicle safety features being released each year, you don’t need superhuman hand-eye coordination to help protect you when you’re behind the wheel. What is Hyundai SmartSense?

SmartSense provides super-powered protection from car crashes. A total of 10 innovative safety features, sensors, and systems comprise Hyundai SmartSense, such as:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (with Pedestrian Detection) – Senses when a frontal collision is imminent and applies emergency braking to help you avoid or reduce the severity of the crash.

  • Blind-Spot Collision Warning – Hyundai vehicles alert you when another car is in your blind spot.

  • Lane Keeping Assist – Audio and visual warnings are sent out when your Hyundai drifts outside of the lane. If you do not change course, steering assistance is automatically engaged.

  • High Beam Assist – Your high beams are automatically toggled on and off depending on traffic and light conditions, passing vehicles, and time of day.

  • Safe Exit Assist – Prevent passengers (children, most of all) from opening the door when sensors detect a passing vehicle approaching from behind.

  • Smart Cruise Control (with Stop & Go) – Radar maintains both a preset speed and distance from the car ahead of you, automatically engaging and disengaging as traffic conditions change.

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning – When reversing, RCTCW alerts you if a vehicle is approaching from the right or left.

  • Rear Occupant Alert – Available only on the 2019 Santa Fe, this Hyundai-exclusive safety feature monitors the back seat for movement, then notifies you to check for stragglers when you exit the SUV.
